What is the difference between a hypnotist and hypnotherapist?
A Hypnotherapist is a licensed medical or mental health provider (nurse, dr., therapist, counselor, etc. – with a minimum of a BA degree). The legal jargon is what the terminology boils down to. In many states, it is illegal for a person to be titled as a hypnotherapist without those qualifications. There are some states, however, which hold no State Laws in regard to this title, so best advice is to ASK the person you are speaking with if they do indeed carry a medical or mental health license – because if not, they are in the same classification as a Hypnotist, which does not carry the medical or mental health degree. The work that a Hypnotist and a Hypnotherapist does, primarily, is one in the same, as they use the same techniques, tools, and modalities to assist their clients with.
Which is better – a Hypnotherapist or Hypnotist?
One is not better than the other. The work they do is based on the same principal, as noted above. However, many who are titled as Hypnotherapists prefer having the title of Hypnotist for the fact that a lot of potential clients shy-away from or prefer not to see a “therapist”.
How many credit-hours does it take to become certified as a Hypnotist?
There are two options. A basic certification course is 40 credit hours. At the successful completion of the course, you will be titled as a “Certified Hypnotist” (or Hypnotherapist, accordingly).
The 2nd option is to an advanced level course. This requires a prerequisite of a current / good standing certification as a Certified Hypnotist, and then is an additional 60 credit hours (or 100 credit hours total). Upon successful completion your title will be changed from Certified Hypnotist to being “Certified Professional Hypnotist” (or Hypnotherapist, accordingly) .
How is it possible to learn hands-on skills in an online environment?
That answer is simple. Many of the hours provided are done so via live-stream recording. In this manner, even though you are not physically sitting in the actual classroom with your classmates, you are still seeing, hearing, speaking, and interacting with them. In regard to hands-on practicing, there will be assignments given for you to complete in a live-setting, via video recording, or during live-streaming class-time. Any assignments which are done via video recording (which any smart phone can do), will be evaluated in the same manner as doing so live.

Can I make someone do something if I hypnotize them?
While there is a very long list of uses for hypnosis, the answer is No. That isn’t feasible, or possible. First, it is of the upmost importance that (once certified) you stay within your scope of practice. Working outside of your capabilities will open you up for the risk of being sued; not to mention the personal harm that you could inadvertently cause to your client by doing so. Secondly, hypnosis cannot force someone to do something they don’t want to do, or do something that is against their personal or moral beliefs.
Will I receive any organizational associations once I’m certified?
Yes. You will be connected with the International Certification Board of Clinical Hypnotherapy (ICBCH). This also grants you membership to a group of thousands of others around the world, and membership to the ICBCH Organization. Additionally, you will be provided more opportunities for growth and development through these associates.

This is one of the most common and frequently asked questions that we get. However, that is a different field of study; known as Stage Hypnosis. How much does it cost to become a hypnotist/hypnotherapist?
Prices vary, depending on where you take the classes, how you take them, and who is providing them, and how long the class hour coverage is. As a ballpark figure, the average ballpark figure ranges from $1,000 to $12,000. I know! That his a big ball-field. But, considering all the factors that are added into concluding the tuition fee, that is how it goes. Online courses offered by private individuals are going to be cheaper than live classes in a college. In the same way, Middle-America locations are going to be cheaper than, say, Coastal area prices.
What educational setting is best for learning?
The best advise that I can suggest is to consider what you want and what is important to you. Personally, I prefer a setting (such what I offer) where the student and instructor have one-on-one time to work together. This is because when you are doing this type of work, the less distractions you have. That helps you to learn better; then the better you learn, the more successful you are going to become. Another bonus to this is that you and your instructor WILL be working-colleagues, once you get certified. Already having that upper-hand by having already developed a good working relationship with an expert in the field is only going to improve your outcome.
What do I need to start training?

If you have not used this before, your instructor will be happy to assist you in getting set up. Otherwise, if you opt for live / in person classes, you will be responsible for all transportation and expenses incurred with that.
